When on the water, DoF Fisheries Officers are required to make license queries. They previously did this by using existing land based administration services. We've streamlined the process by creating a mobile app!

The Challenge

Department of Fisheries required their officers to be able to access fishing licence and registration data on a mobile application that would be easy to use and accessible on a range of devices. This will make it a quicker and easier process for them to access information, meaning fishers can be on their way sooner - a good result for everyone..

Xamarin Forms, a Microsoft owned company with tools for cross platform development was implemented by our team to develop a windows application with secure mobile API interface – which allows secure mobile access. The use of fuzzy search logic was an added benefit to improving results for occasions such as incorrect spelling.

The DoF Officers Mobile Application is available on both the App Store for iOS devices, and the Google Play store for Android devices. Making it adaptable to each officer.

The Results

DoF Mobile Fisheries Officers now have access to the entire licence database from their pockets, with the use of their new DoF Officers Mobile Application. With a quick search for the first and last names of a licence holder, they are presented with an informative and colour coordinated card of the status of that licence.

This means the officers are saving hours each day, and can interact with numerous more fishermen than they would prior to the release of the application.

An added benefit of the DoF Officers Mobile Application solution is the creation of a friendlier interaction between the officers and the fishermen, who no longer a need to wait so long for their licence to be checked - happy client, happy fishermen!
