Working for the local government in Western Australia is the key focus of The Western Australian Local Government Association (WALGA). As the peak industry body, WALGA advocates on behalf of 138 WA local governments and negotiates service agreements for the sector.

The redevelopment of the online services provided by WALGA has resulted in a website and permission based portal that now offers a variety of services to local government council and staff members.

The Challenge

The Western Australian Local Government Association had a business requirement to reduce the number of standalone websites, while providing a more efficient and easier administration interface for distribution of information to all audience types.

As an organisation that works for a vast range of stakeholders, WALGA needed a website that works for the end user as much as for their internal processes.

The focus of the WALGA project was to make their standalone websites into a sleek, modern, user friendly, and easy-to-navigate portal. The Integranet Perth team needed to provide a website that presented clear pathways for a diverse group, ensuring information was easily accessible and responsive and making it a useful and easy to use tool on any device.

The Solution

Starting from the ground up, the Perth Integranet web development team and digital strategists audited the existing websites and combined them into a single website that supported a consistent and user-driven web experience.

The Kentico CMS (Content Management Solution) was selected as the base for the website, with a complex management portal created so councils can access services that they subscribe to and can manage their own users and access permissions.

The WALGA service administrators were provided a dashboard for easy management of the councils under their control, with a complex notification system to ensure any requests for access to services or systems was received by the right person within the business.

Their new site is now a platform/interface for all user types, and the portal is used to access all online services provided by WALGA. These include, but are not limited to; Localeye, KnowYourCouncil and LG Risk Vision.

As the end user moves through the site they experience a clean and uncluttered layout, with information that is easy to locate and receive.

The Results

The Western Australian Local Government Association's website is a huge improvement and has been embraced internally and externally by multiple local government bodies. The website is an example of insightful user experience, responsive design and intuitive accessibility. As a result the WALGA website has become the central hub for local government information in Western Australia.
